While it feels like the 2021 Season just got started when we returned to live events with the 2021 North Attleboro Kids Day Festival, NCW WrestleFest XVI has now come and gone and all that’s left to do this year is sit down, take a good hard look at the insane happenings of Northeast Championship Wrestling’s 2021 Season, and case your vote for your favorites of the year.
Voting will be ongoing now through January 31st, 2022 at midnight EST with winners announced after the new year as we prepare for the NCW 2022 Season kicking off March 4th in Dedham, MA!
NCW 2021 Wrestler of the Year
The NCW 2021 Wrestler of the Year award could go to a variety of NCW stars as we close out the 2021 Season as “DELICIOUSLY VICIOUS” VERN VICALLO began the Season defending his NCW Heavyweight Championship against all comers until BRETT RYAN GOSSELIN attacked and injured Vicallo during Vern’s Ladder Match with “THE NATURAL” CHANNING THOMAS resulting in Vern being forced to vacate the NCW title which led to the vacant championship put on the line in the 2021 Big City Rumble Match which saw LUMBERJAKE eliminate BRG to become a three time NCW Heavyweight Champion.
Former NCW New England Champion and self-proclaimed NCW Hardcore Champion TIM LENNOX made his shocking return to NCW this Season by assaulting DOC OZONE and following things up by literally murdering NICK STAPP on NCW BEHIND CLOSED DOORS and feeding him to his dog Cricket.
MIKE MONTERO regained the NCW New England Championship from “INSANE” DICK LANE at the NCW Virtual REUNION by using any means necessary, but it was “RIOT” KELLAN THOMAS waiting for his perfect opportunity to capitalize on Montero, which he did at WrestleFest XVI defeating Montero and finally becoming NCW Triple Crown Winner and the NCW New England Champion.
Montero’s partner in crime RICKY MEDEIROS saw his stock rise big time during the pandemic era of NCW, showing his guts and determination in standing up to Montero and challenging for the New England Title after winning the Ox Baker Memorial Cup while ROBBIE “THE GIANT” ARAUJO suffered the loss of another tag team partner, taking it in stride to wave the flag of his hometown high and be one of the premiere performers in NCW as a 15 year veteran of the company. And finally rounding out the nominees is “The Kaytastic One” ARMANI KAYOS, who showed New England just what he was capable of in his first match this Season pinning The Lumberjake (with brass knuckles) in his in-ring debut.
NCW 2021 Women’s Wrestler of the Year
Since Northeast Championship Wrestling brought women’s wrestling back to the ring in 2018 the women of NCW continued to showcase just how good they could be, and with so many talented competitors entering the squared circle in 2021 NCW officials knew it was time to bring a Women’s Championship to the company for the first time in its 24 year history.
BECCA becoming NCW’s first Women’s Champion defeating ISANA in the Finals at NCW SHOOTS AND LADDERS was a historic moment, and with LITTLE MEAN KATHLEEN defeating Becca at WrestleFest XVI to become the defending Champion- anything is possible.
With the NCW Women’s Championship quickly becoming one of the most coveted titles in New England, the caliber of competition will only grow as we head into the 2022 Season.
NCW 2021 Tag Team of the Year
The tag team division was a division in flux during the 2021 Season, and while CHANNING THOMAS and VERN VICALLO ended the Season as unlikely Tag Team Champions, THE BIG BOYS did their best to dominate the Tag Team division through the year doing their best to mimic the actions of BRG.
WAVES N’ CURLS took the reigns of the pandemic era of NCW, winning the NCW Tag Team Championship in only their second match in the promotion while former Tag Team Champions THE LITTLE GIANTS attempted to win the titles one more time before BULLET JOE went down to injury and taking him out of action.
THE LEAGUE OF EXCELLENCE went to build up there ranks and leverage the tandem of NICK DIAMOND and STEVEN LUST while PARIS VAN DALE and ARMANI KAYOS rose to the top as one of the most powerful tandems competing in the 2021 Season.
Which do you prefer? COLD HARD CASH or DA’ HOODZ? Take your pick depending on where you were during the 2021 year, but closing out 2021 DAVEY CASH and KRIS PYRO set themselves up to be one of the dominant tag teams of the 2022 Season.
NCW 2021 Match of the Year
The top matches of 2021 in Northeast Championship Wrestling as nominated by our fans online, the staff and crew, and our fans at our live events is one of the strongest ballots in this categories history. The epic Ladder Match between CHANNING THOMAS and VERN VICALLO at NCW SHOOTS AND LADDERS was a tremendous showcase for both competitors, only ruined by the arrival of BRG who was still reeling from the fantastic Triple Threat Match the trio had the month prior at NCW’s Virtual REUNION. The war between Channing and Gosselin continued into NCW NO FEAR featuring one of the hardest hitting matches in NCW history which ended in a No Contest thanks to, you guessed it? The returning Vern Vicallo.
NCW New England Champion MIKE MONTERO and “RIOT” KELLAN THOMAS let it all hang out at WrestleFest XVI, but let’s not discount Montero’s incredible title defense against DAVIENNE at NCW’s Don’t Stop Belivin’ iPPV. The women of NCW also showed how good they could be when BECCA and LITTLE MEAN KATHLEEN finally collided for the NCW Women’s Championship at WrestleFest.
Fans returning to the NCW Big City Rumble saw two stand out matches as LUMBERJAKE battled TIM LENNOX in a wild Anarchy Rules brawl while the 2021 Big City Rumble Match saw every single wrestler compete to become NCW Heavyweight Champion, with Jake eliminating BRG to win his third NCW title.
NCW 2021 Breakout Star of the Year
During the pandemic we saw many new faces inside the NCW ring in 2021, and while some made more of an impact than others the new and fresh blood of NCW will always showcase just how good they are- and what they bring to the table in Northeast Championship Wrestling. This year’s crop of breakout talent is some of the best competing today, and will be the future of wrestling over the next few years.
NCW 2021 Manager of the Year
The man (or woman) standing behind the competitors inside the ring can sometimes make a world of difference, and 2021 was no different as DALLAS MCCARTHY rose up and began collecting an assorted group of misfits to form his LEAGUE OF EXCELLENCE while the mad DOCTOR OZONE continued to watch FOXY CALVIN CAMPBELL’S back even while getting assaulted by TIM LENNOX.
KEVIN CASTRO’S soap opera of a Season closed out with DA’ HOODZ once again by his side 100%, but was sacrificing SHAY CASH for DAVEY CASH Castro’s plan all along? DELILAH HAYDEN divorced DICK LANE during the pandemic, took all his money, and used that money to fund TIM KILGORE’S insane wardrobe and theatrical antics. Does that make her the best manager or just the greediest? STEVE “THE TURTLE” did his best to watch Dick Lane’s back this year, but let’s not forget Steve did start an underground gambling ring during the pandemic while betting on matches.
NCW’s 2021 Best Non Wrestling Personality
Is 2021 SHANE DALY’S year? The longtime NCW Ring Announcer has long sought after the prestigious Best Non Wrestling Personality Award, held by such luminaries as STEVE THE BARTENDER and KEPLER.
With multiple time winner REDD ROCHE not eligible this year Daly believes it’s his time to shine, however this Season also saw many worthy candidates including DEREK SIMONETTI, who watched over the BEHIND CLOSED DOORS series throughout the pandemic while also pinch hitting as a ring announcer for our Bristol events while the Zebras all did their job admirably throughout 2021, until ROB GREER decided to go all in on BRG and help screw over Lumberjake at WrestleFest.
