Northeast Championship Wrestling’s 2016 Season Awards have been counted and tallied. A huge thank you to everyone who voted this year and made your voices heard!

And the winners are…

NCW 2016 Wrestler of the Year

 

“The Selfie-Made Man” Vern Vicallo- 23%

 

“Insane” Dick Lane- 15%
The Lumberjake & “RIOT” Kellan Thomas (TIE)- 14%
“Sensational” Scott Levesque- 8%

 

A self-fulfilling prophecy? Rigged voting? Or at the end of the day is “The Selfie-Made Man” Vern Vicallo just as good as he says he is? After stealing “RIOT” Kellan Thomas‘ 2015 Award and carrying it around as his own for a year Vern Vicallo finally gets to call himself the Wrestler of the Year and have it be true. Winning an impressive 23% of the vote, Vicallo will walk into the 2017 Season with a very big bulls-eye on his back with the very best of NCW gunning for him.

In a huge surprise “Insane” Dick Lane came in 2nd place with 15% of the vote this year with NCW Heavyweight Champion Lumberjake and three-time winner Thomas tied at 14% right behind him.

For a second year in the row CrossFit has won NCW’s Tag Team of the Year, cementing the group as one of the greatest tag teams in NCW history after their reign as NCW Tag Team Champions came to an end at WrestleFest XII.

It was a close race however, as the wacky and zany Turtles in Time received 19% of the vote while the new NCW Tag Team Champions The Heavy Hitters (and the team that defeated CrossFit to win the titles) hit hard with a close 3rd place win.

“The Dan Ram” Danny Ramirez- 18%
Delilah Hayden- 15%
The Kool People/Ike & Tim Davidson (TIE)- 10%

 

This was one competitive category this year!

Taking 20% and barely edging out “The Dan Ram” Danny Ramirez, Tyler Nitro is your 2016 Breakout Star of the Year as the upstart built a strong connections with the Norwood and Dedham fans. Ramirez was right behind Nitro losing the award by only a handful of votes. Turtles in Time’s princess Delilah Hayden came in with a close 3rd place victory while The Kool People and The Underground Anarchy tied at 4th.

10 on 10 Ultimate Elimination Match (NCW NO FEAR)- 19%

“The Selfie-Made Man” Vern Vicallo vs. “RIOT” Kellan Thomas (NCW WrestleFest XII)- 14%
NCW New England Title. Osirus vs. “The Juice” JT Dunn (NCW Ring of Thrones)- 13%
NCW New England Title. Osirus vs. “The Dan Ram” Danny Ramirez (NCW’s 19 year REUNION)- 12%

 

For the first time in NCW history twenty men will be awarded the 2016 Match of the Year as the 10 on 10 Ultimate Elimination Match from NCW NO FEAR won this very heated race with 19% of the vote, that saw Scott Levesque’s League of Levesque defeat Lumberjake and the NCW Union to win the match.

“The Selfie-Made Man” Vern Vicallo and “RIOT” Kellan Thomas from WrestleFest XII came in second place, while the NCW New England Championship Match between Osirus and JT Dunn and Osirus and “The Dan Ram” found themselves neck and neck in votes.

The war between 2016 Big City Rumble winner “Sensational” Scott Levesque and the NCW Heavyweight Champion Lumberjake carried the back half of the NCW Season, culminating in their vicious Dog Collar Match at WrestleFest XII. While Jake won that match, it would seem the war is far from over for these two warriors of the ring.

“High Class” Rich Bass- 25%
Delilah Hayden- 21%
Ashley Mason- 12%

 

Chasing the award he first won in 2013, Doc Ozone has once again reclaimed his place as Manager of the Year in NCW after blowing away the competition with 34% of the vote. Last years winner “High Class” Rich Bass trailed behind in 2nd place with 25%, while Delilah Hayden rounded out the top three at 21%.

When you think of heroes, remember that they don’t all wear capes. Sometimes they serve you an ice cold beer on a Friday night at the Norwood Elks Lodge. Winning 23% of the vote is local favorite Steve the Bartender, a staple at NCW events in Norwood since we arrived in 2013.

This years runner-ups are all new faces in the Best Non Wrestling category, including punk upstart ring announcer Dallas McCarthy, Presidential hopeful and NE Hall of Famer Beau Douglas, and NCW color commentator Derek Simonetti.

2015 saw “Sensational” Scott Levesque and “High Class” Rich Bass return to NCW, promising to take over and dominant the promotion like no other has before them. In 2016, Bass and Levesque continued their revolution bringing The High Class Cartel to NCW and creating chaos at every turn. Following the events of WrestleFest, who knows what 2017 will hold for the most hated group in NCW today.

The reigning NCW Heavyweight Champion had a busy 2016, defending his NCW title against all comers while establishing himself as the man to beat in NCW. Some might say Norwood made Lumberjake what he is today, and with that has been rewarded by winning NCW’s 2016 Most Popular award, beating out The Turtles in Time by five votes.

Perennial favorites “RIOT” Kellan Thomas and Osirus rounded out the list, though there’s no shortage for fan favorites in NCW.

A year ago Steve “The Turtle” Weiner and “Insane” Dick Lane were fighting in the longest match in NCW history. Today alongside Delilah Hayden and the spicy Curry Boy, Turtles in Time have become the weirdest, craziest, and unlikely stable in NCW today. Who knows what 2017 will bring for the unorthodox crew.

NCW’s 2016 Holy $#!T Moment of the Year was without a doubt the WrestleFest finale that saw the coalition of Beau Douglas, Rich Bass, Scott Levesque, The Kool People, Triplelicious, The Underground Anarchy, The Maine State Posse, and “The Mind Eraser” Mike Graca destroy the ringside area following the NCW Title Match, attacking everything in their path until the NCW locker room poured out to stop the insanity.
